So we jst finished the art work 4 the nxt coin coin #record yesterday. Whew!!! it is soooooooo beautiful, im actually stunned by it myself…I wish i cld share a photo of it w/ everyone 2day, bt good things come 2 those who wait… In the meantime heres a few pages from an old score from the 1st record. Making colorful scores is really fun. This was an actual music game for the band. Right now am working mostly w variations of black+another primary color that if u have spent time in person w/ me u kno what color that is… they are my spirit colors at this point…. Will share snippets of those new scores in the nxt few months….Also im just working on regular ” looking” ( for me:)) anthems/songs i hear in my head… My head is full of so many songs/sounds on a given day… it drives me absolutely mad sometimes…. NPR just did a piece on the Rockefellers+ art this morn, and hd me remembering this. this is recorded at the marcel breuer house on the Rockefeller grounds in sleepy hollow NY. I lived in it for 3 weeks alone during ice storms, 2 am coyote gatherings, and the rise of an arab spring… as a self professed history geek i will say that living on the Rockefeller grounds filled me with a lot of mixed emotions, as historically speaking i am not completely instep with the way of which that family affected poor urban environments on a mass scale in negative ways, at the same time they have done, and continue to do a lot for art, and global issues i care about, so that brings a balance that is interesting and perplexing as well. Same perplexities/ complexities that had me thinking long and hard about my recent participation w/ the red bull music academy, amazing what they are doing, bt also something I almost turned down bc of similar issues and personal concerns for me that just come from growing up american urban black+ seeing things that others are just not privy to……. there’s no black/white in art life tho. it’s really all gray if u want to survive, bt u still have 2 choose wisely+ remain aware. Regardless, Marcel Breuer is a an art hero of mine and it was an honor to live in this vintage somewhat spooky house, write music,play my horn, and jst think abt life as it is, as it does…. anyhow free download 4 u. happy thursday. xm
